How is air quality measured and analysed?

The Estiq air quality model combines data from the national monitoring network and looks at three main components:

PM2.5 (fine particles)

Smaller than 2.5 micrometres, mainly from heating and traffic. Consistently below 4 µg/m³ in the forested areas of Pirita and Nõmme.

NO2 (nitrogen dioxide)

Mostly from vehicle exhaust. Higher on busy arterial roads (Liivalaia, Gonsiori) and low inside residential blocks.

AQI (air quality index)

International scale from 0 to 500. A value below 25 means exceptionally clean air.
